Where Should I Keep or Invest My Money? What’s Safe and Profitable?

 

These are just some of the questions we all ask ourselves when we manage to save a few euros — whether many or few — and want to invest them so they can grow, or to have funds available for a future need.

This is where real estate enters the picture — and the purchase of houses and apartments has reached an unprecedented scale in Portugal. The questions become more acute in times of instability and uncertainty!

As for land, since the legal requirement to clear and maintain it to prevent fires or falling trees that could damage public roads or neighboring properties, owning plots has lost much of its appeal. In many cases, the annual cleaning cost — often requiring a professional — exceeds the income the land could generate. Add to that the annual property tax (IMI), and the equation becomes even less attractive.

For this reason, capital — euros and dollars alike — is moving from country to country and from district to district in search of investment opportunities in ready-to-use apartments, houses, or shops. Preferably at a good price and with immediate rental potential.

However, modern life — often shared by couples with children and both partners working — leaves little time to research the best properties to buy.

That’s why more and more people are turning to real estate consultants — increasingly independent, though often operating within real estate networks.
